McColl
Elementary/Middle School is located in rural Marlboro County,
between Bennettsville, S.C. and Laurinburg, N.C. There
are few industries or businesses in McColl, thus most of
the town's residents commute to other places for work. In the
past, many of the area's residents were involved in farming.
Today, the county's only peanut farm is located in the McColl area.
McColl School serves approximately 750 students in grades Pre-K through 8th. Our school will operate on an extended school year calendar beginning July 16, 2001. Students and staff have enjoyed new facilities since the 2000-2001 school year. To foster a greater appreciation for the history of McColl, Town Museum staff sponsored a contest for students in grades 3-8. Students toured the museum and wrote essays about their favorite displays. Essay winners received monetary awards and had their work published in a booklet dedicated to the Museum staff. It was decided to expand this activity and further promote the Museum by having student "techies" create web pages. Students interviewed town citizens, took digital pictures of displays, and used FrontPage software package to create the web pages. e-mail: vmccraw@marlboro.k12.sc.us
