The Seven Gables

The Seven Gables was a house built by the owners of the Hampton Terrace Hotel.  It was used as a lodge but became a private residence as it was purchased by the John Herberts of New York and was called the Palmetto Lodge.  After the Herberts left, the house was used by various families.  The best known was Edison Marshall, a famous writer. In the fifties a motel was built beside the house and a restaurant was opened in the main building in 1966. Cecil Herbert Barnes Jr. is the recent owner of the Seven Gables.  His family is refurbishing it and is going to open it into another restaurant.
