Caring for Animals

There are 50 species of mammals alone at Riverbanks of which 1/2 to 2/3 are endangered.

They get most of their animals from other zoos.

They feed most of the animals by moving them into their night house, then they clean and set the food out and release the animals in to their normal area.

For the lesser animals such as birds they go into the cages with them to give them their food.

They do not bathe the animals. The animals clean themselves. Sometimes the elephants, polar bears, etc. like an occasional spray but they do not give them proper baths.

Riverbanks participates in a conservation program that helps the animals in their place of origin.

Children can help the animals by learning about the animals and where they live and joining programs such as the the World Wildlife Fund. For links to some of the conservation websites including the World Wildlife Fund go to my page called Conservation Sites.

Here is an endangered species list.
