Writing About Oconee

Oconee State Park is a scenic area, with an olden day feel, that sits on a plateau in the Blue Ridge Mountains. At the trading post, which is only open during tourist season, you sort of have a blast from the past when you see the gas station tank that looks like it’s from the 50’s. The trails are also an enjoyable feature. Oconee Trail, which is the tail that my team and I took while were up there, is an “easy” two-mile loop that offers a wonderful view of the lake which is absolutely breath taking. While taking this trail you feel compelled to stop every few steps and take in the beautiful scenery.

While walking through the forest, the branches on the trees come together to make a tunnel in the woods. There are four other trails in the park and their difficulty ranges from easy to strenuous. The trails are as follows: Lake Trail is an easy one-mile loop, Old Waterwheel trail is a moderate 1.5-mile loop, and Hidden Trail is a moderate to difficult trail that measures 2.5 miles in length. Besides the hiking trails,  that you can enjoy while in the park, you can also fish, swim, and rent a canoe for either a day or a half a day. Viewing the Lake at Oconee
