Checking in with you.  I am descended from Josiah D. Bryan, found in this county in 1830.  His brother is A. C. D. Bryan, found in the county both in 1830 and 1840.  Their father was Dr. Fortunatus W. Bryan, seen in this county in 1810 as "Doc Forts".

Love to hear if you can add anything.

Looking for A. C. D. Bryan's marriage, hear that the wife's name is Barbara.

Looking for Washington Bryan, family folklore says is the third son of Dr. F. Bryan.  Folklore also says Dr. F. Bryan had 4 children.

From Charlie Brady, We3nwest@aol.com - 7/29/2005

Judy,

I read some stuff copyrighted 1997 regarding the William Lewis and Simon Bryans.  I cannot help but wonder about my ancestor Fortunatus.  He was a Doctor, and owned a plantation (or more).  He is in Barnwell and Beaufort Counties in the early 1800s.

Folk states that two brohters came over from Ireland, named Anderson and Washington, and that we were from Anderson. Attempts at connecting Fortunatus to Anderson Bryant (1746), friend of Thomas Jefferson, have not been satisfying to this point.

It is interesting that you see Fortunatus in reference to Faust famiy.  I found it interesting that there is a William Washington Bryan in your data.

Thank you for any assistance.  If the state of your research has recently been published, and you think it would help, please advise.

Thank you,

Charlie Brady

Faust Family, <http://sciway3.net/clark/allendale/faust.html> by Dr Frank Oliver Clark;

CHRISTIAN FAUST d 1816 married Eunice Abstrance who later married Samuel Raley (or Bailey).  Barnwell Probate Bundle.  Istestate (no will).  Samuel Bailey administrator.  Warrant of appraisement 28 March 1816 to John Banyan?.  Stephen Roberts, John Allen, Valentine Gill, Wilson Williams, "or any three or four of them".  11 Oct 1816, O D Allen appointed Samuel Baley administrator.  26 May 1816 an inventory was made, not totaled, but about $4,000 by John Brunton?, Wilson Williams & Stephen Roberts.  9 Sept 1816 notice of administration to Samuel Baley posted at Baleys "allcher?" house by James Prescott, Preacher of the gospel (same preacher who appears in probate bundle of JOhn Gill in 1822, & I think earliest documented preacher of Mt. Arnon Church).

11 Oct 1816 Samuel Bailey, Fortunatus Bryan and William McMillan bond as securities for #14,000, witness William Dunn or McDunn?.  26 Nov 1816 John Brunton, Stephen Roberts, &Wilson wrote a letter requesting that they be released as securities on the estate (of Christian Faust, d 1816).  O D A Allen on 18 Dec 1818 wrote a letter to Samuel Bailey stating that Fortunatus Bryan  & Wm McMillian complained & requested that they be relieved as secutities, & Bryan must see Allen no later than the third Friday in Jan.  29 Jan 1819, notice was published in Baileys Meeting House that Major William McMillan be made administrator, notice posted by John McTail? (James Prescott's name crossed through).  5 March 1819  14 negroes were valued at #6715 by W. Barker, John Creech, John Huggins, & Matthew Moye.  The estate was sold on 6 & 7 April 1819 for #12,018.95, and $5,274 worth of slaves by Wm McMillan, admr, rec'd 4 June 1819.  In 1818 Samuel Bailey paid $12 cash for school books out of the estate, implying that Christian Fause may have left school age children.  There does not seem to be any distribution of this estate in the probate package.
