IV. Children of Charles C. Herron and Marnia

2ed wife of Charles C. Herron, Matilda (Tillie)Minges bef. 1907 b. circa 1880. This is confusing here as Frank has the name as Elizabeth M. Mingers daughter of John A. Mingers 83 immigrated 1858 naturalized 1868 from Germany and has her at 22 in the 1920 cencus which would put her b.at 1898 Is this the same person? according to our records they had one child, but my mother says there was also a Charles and a Irma and a Walter that lived. Also she says she was married before and had a crippled child. This is what we have;

I have some little more information if you find this to be your family. I would like to find someone still living who might be able to unconfuse us if in fact anyone knows. As far as we know this is correct.

Also we would like to be able to update our records with the family as we have lost these Herrons. I have pictures of John Calhoun Herron and Walter I. Herron and Thomas S. Herron. I may have a picture of Charles C. Herron, but it isn't very good and we don't know if it may also be Thomas instead. Would be glad to share if this is part of your family. Thank you, Dianne

My grandmother did not talk about her family very much and the only information  we have is what my father could dig up. We would like to locate other Herrons in our family.  Our Herrons were from SC. Surnames connected with the Herrons are Mr. Roberts (wife identified as Eliza) had a daughter who married a J. Macbeth/or McBeth, we have always known it as Macbeth. We don't have her first name only she was born abt 1800 and Macbeth b. abt 1804 both were said to come from Garliestown, Scotland. As far as we can tell we are related to both of her children and my grandparents were then second cousins. We only know of two children and J. Macbeth was a sea Captain.  I am not sure if this came from the Macbeth bible or not. We do not know who has possession of this now, only that it exists somewhere. Anyhow we have Sarah May Ann Macbeth married John H. Herron. We don't know the death date of Sarah only that she was b. before 1822 Charleston, SC d. ? John H. Herron son of Charles Herron and Margarget C. b. circa 1814 (?) d. Jun 1856 in Charleston, SC (St. John's Burial Ground).

Charles Herron b. circa 1788 SC d. Oct 1848 Charleston, SC m. Margaret C. b. circa 1788 ? d. Oct 1829

Charles Herron and Margaret C. b. circa 1814 (?) d. Jun 1856 in Charleston, SC

Children:

  1. William P. Herron b. circa 1840 in Charleston, SC d. Jul. 1898 (more below).  I have John C. Herron's brothers family also William P. Herron but no information on what happened to the children other than the first one. We have he married Amanda E. b. 22/May/1841 d. 30/Mar/1916. All the information we have is in Charleston, SC so I won't put that down each time to save time. Children;

    1. William Herron J. b. circa 1870 d. 26/Jul/1903 m. Mary ? before 1898.

    2. Amanda Herron b. circa 1873 d.?

    3. H. G. Herron b. Jan 1874 d. 21/May/1875

    4. Eliza Herron b. Oct.1877 d. 3/Nov/1878

    5. Alvin Herron b. circa 1880 d.?

    6. Edward Herron b. circa 1882 d.?

  2. John Calhoun Herron (my g-grandfather)b. 1843 d.Jul 1937 married 1st Nancy L. Mundell 2ed Julia Prevost Abrams (my g-grandmother)b. May 1865 in Charleston, Sc Parents were Charles Theodore Abrams and Georgiana Roslin Sigwald Jones (she was married to John J. Jones for a few months and he died, father was Paul Jones according to obit told to me) Charles b.1825 was in the Charleston House orphanage and father was Levy J. Abrahams and Mother Elizabeth M. (Not a lot about them either other than they died within months of each other and he had a brother Alexander and Roseanna. All three were eventually taken in by Joseph Prevost.).  Children of the 2ed wife of John C. Herron (Julia as mentioned before) was Eugenia Louise Herron b. 1906 Savannah, GA d. 1986 (my grandmother) who married James Ira Macbeth (my grandfather b. 1893 Richmond Co. Ga d. 1987 Both of their mothers died when they were about 3. Mama was put into an orphanage for a while and then went back to her father and step brothers I don't know what age. Her father was in the civil war and made it out as you can see.  John C. Herron and Nancy L. Mundell b. Jun. 1846 d.Feb. 1882. Children:

    1. Charles Calhoun Herron b. Oct. 1873 d. ? According to John C. Herrons Obit. he was in Brooklyn, NY Jul. 1937, and before this he lived at Mt. Pleasant, SC (I think this is who you have in the 1900 and 1920 census.) I am guessing our records come from the court house records and now I don't know what is right. Anyhow this is what we have. Charles Calhoun Herron married 1st Marnia (Mamie) parents from Germany circa. 1895 d. May 1906. Children; 1. Annie b. May 1896 Savannah, Ga no other info. except in your 1900 census middle initial of "D."  [A Charles C. Herron is listed with wife Mamie born Jan. 1873 SC in the 1900 census in Savannah, GA. Charles C. Now I'm not sure but my mom says that she was married before and had a daughter who was crippled so I am thinking this is who Rosina is at the age of 19 in the 1920 census and not his grandaughter. And Marina must have still been with them and she was also abt. 19 by then.  We have they had one child by the name of Charles Calhoun Herron Jr. b. Mar 1908 and d. Jan 1910 buried at Bethany Cem. Charleston, SC.  My mother says no, that she can remember Charles and there was also a Walter and an Irma? We have no records of them only what you have in the 1920 census records. She said that Charles C. Herron and Walter his brother (later) named their kids after each other, but that is really strange that they would use the exact same names. I will give you his brothers later. I think that the children you mention as his grandchildren must be his children or maybe Annie's children? Or then did he adopt them and what happened to her? Or there is a son we don't have a record of. Any help here?   Charles C. Herron is listed in the1920 census in Charleston, SC, 47 (born c1873), son in law of John A. Mingers, married, could read & write, born SC, native tongue English, father German, mother born in SC, salesman for ice factory, wage earner. This man at least seems to match in age the C.C. Herron in the 1900 census in Savannah. His now wife, Eliza Mingers Herron, born c1898, is listed in the 1920 census as daughter of John A. Mingers born c1837 head of household, 83 years old, immigrated 1858 naturalized 1868 read & write born in Germany, German native tongue, father & mother German, Merchant (R?) John C. Herron and Nancy L. Mundell b. Jun. 1846 d.Feb. 1882. Children:

  1. Charles Calhoun Herron b. Oct. 1873 d. ? According to John C. Herrons Obit. he was in Brooklyn, NY Jul. 1937 before this he lived at Mt. I think Apr/1965 (I remember my grandmother talking about him and I think this is about the time he died in Tampa, Fl), 4.th son of John C. Herron and Nancy L. Mundell.  He was married at least 5 times but we only have a record of 2 and mom says that the one the record has as his sons mother isn't the right person. (What a mess!)   2ed wife Laverne Ann divorce Apr.1923 (we have a picture of her).  4th wife Margie child Charles Walter Ram Herron b. aft. 1927 (Mom thinks he was adopted, but we don't know who.)   These are the only records of the ones that had children. However, if it would help I will give you the rest of John C. Herrons children.

  5. Edward Herron b. Feb 1880 Charleston, SC d. ? Must have died before 1937 as he is not mentioned in his fathers obit.

Charles Calhoun Herron b. Oct. 1873 d. ? According to John C. Herrons Obit. he was in Brooklyn, NY Jul. 1937, and before this he lived at Mt. 1. Charles Calhoun Herron Jr. b. Mar 1908 and d. Jan 1910 buried at Bethany Cem. Charleston, SC.
  2. Walter Herron
  3. Irma Herron

2ed wife Matilda (Tillie) Minges you have her as Elizabeth Mingers 22 in 1920 census daughter of John A Mingers 83 immigrated 1858 naturalized 1868 from Germany. Now I'm not sure but my mom says that she was married before and had a daughter who was crippled so I am thinking this is who Rosina is at the age of 19 in the 1920 census and not his grandaughter. This is what you found in the 1920 census

1.Thomas S. Herron age 8 (born abt.1912) Grandson 2.Walter I. Herron age 5 (born abt.1915)Grandson They must have been real but what happened to them? This is what we have for the rest of his brothers.  See if you don't think this is confusing? My mom says he was married a third time and all she remembers is she had red hair and she may have been from Brooklyn, NY and this is why he went there.

2ed wife of John C. Herron (Julia as menitoned before) was Eugenia Louise Herron b.

I have found that in our records we have missed some people because of the parents dieing and they went with other family members. This was true with the Sigwald family. Our Herrons seem to be fragmented and will be hard to find. My parents are in their 80's now and my mother would like to find out what happened to the rest of the family.

I realize that that this may not be any of your relation, but if it would help you cut your list down any at least it would help that much even if you can't help me any. Your site was listed as one of the possible findings when I put in a search on the LDS for Charles Herron +or- 10 years for 1788. Your census has helped some and put some more questions in our find as well. I do have a picture of John Calhoun Herron also his sons Walter Ingersoll Herron and Thomas Sigwald Herron. I don't know why I don't have a picture of Charles Calhoun Herron Sr. as this was my grandmothers favorite half brother.
