Faust

Christian Faust d1816 married Eunice Abstance who later married Samuel Raley (or Bailey). Barnwell Probate Bundle. Intestate (no will). Samuel Bailey administrator. Warrant of appraisement 28 March 1816 to John Banyan?, Stephen Roberts, John Allen, Valentine Gill, Wilson Williams, "or any three or four of them." 11 Oct. 1816, O. D. Allen appointed Samuel Baley administrator. 26 May 1816 an inventory was made, not totaled, but about $4,000 by John Brunton?, Wilson WIlliams, & Stephen Roberts. 9 Sept. 1816 notice of administration to Samuel Baley posted at Baleys "allcher?" house by James Prescott, Preacher of the gospel (same preacher who appears in probate bundle of John Gill in 1822, & I think earliest documented preacher of Mt. Arnon Church). 11 Oct. 1816 Samuel Bailey, Fortunatus Bryan, & Wm. McMillan bond as securities for $14,000, witness William Dunn or McDunn?. 26 Nov. 1816 John Brunton, Stephen Roberts, & WiIlson Williams swore to appraise the estate. 17 July 1818, F. Banyan? or Bryan & William McMillon wrote a letter requesting that they be released as securities on the estate. O. D. A. Allen on 18 Dec. 1818 wrote a letter to Samuel Bailey stating that Fortunatus Bryan? & Wm. McMillian complained & requested that they be relieved as securities, & Bryan must see Allen no later than the third Friday in January. 29 Jan. 1819, notice was published in Baileys Meeting House that Major William McMillan be made administrator, notice posted by John McTail? (James Prescott's name crossed through). 5 March 1819 14 negroes were valued at $6715 by W. Barker, John Creech, John Huggins, & Matthew Moye. The estate was sold on 6 & 7 April 1819 for $12,018.95, & $5,274 worth of slaves, by Wm. McMillan, admr, rec'd 4 June 1819. In 1818 Samuel Bailey paid $12 cash for school books out of the estate, implying that Christian Faust may have left school age children. There does not seem to be any distribution of this estate in the probate package.
