surrounding Trinity C. M. E. Church (Barnwell Rd at King Ck.) Son Eugene
SAMS buried Trinity Cemetery. 1870 census she isin Barnwell County, Bull
Pond Township; 1880 census Hampton County, Lawton Township; removed to Augusta
in 1892 where she died in 1918. In Augusta, 3 Allendale cousins lived with
her: Anna OWENS, Bertha COX, &Lillian BRYANT who married Tom BEST of

Have you run across land grant, etc, in the early 1770's in the
Barnwell/Allendale/Beaufort area which were described as Granville County?
From what I can find out, Granville County was divided into Orangeburg,
Beaufort, and a few other disticts in 1769. Did the Granville County
designation continue to be used, say, until 1774? If so, it might put my
ancestor Solomon Owens in SC earlier than I thought, and may negate the NC
Solomon Owens in Craven Co, NC, in 1776. 29 Sept. 2003 |

I am seeking information on Jacob Gray. His first wife was
Cecelia Mauldin Gray. Jacob was born April 05, 1778 either in North Carolina
or Virginia. Jacob and Cecelia lived on a hugh plantation with slaves working
the fields in Allendale, Barnwell District according to a misplaced copy
of his will. According to the will they had the following children: Charles
Tucker, William Parker, Leah (married a Wells), Mahala (married a Gooding),
Holland (married a Simmons), Jane (married a Youmans), Hanson Cecelia (married
James Owen Murray-my ancestors) and Jacob A. Gray. After the death of Cecelia
in 1842, Jacob remarried. His second wife was Dorcas Fields (born July 10,
1815 d. March 16, 1883). Together they had the following children: Martha,
b. March 10, 1842 d. June 10, 1933 and Joseph J. Gray, b. July 22, 1852 d.
September 25, 1928. Jacob and Dorcas are buried Allendale, Smithfield Cemetery,
South Carolina. Cecelia was b. about 1780, d. 1842, I do not know where she
is buried. Her parents were Tucker Mauldin and Caroline Arrington. Jacob
and Cecelia were married about 1806. Jacob's father, William Gray, fought
in the Revolutionary War (b. 1740-1750 d. ?), his mother's name was Sarah
Parker (b. 1745-1750 d. ?). Sarah was the daughter of Jacob Parker and ?
I would appreciate hearing from anyone with the Gray/Mauldin lines.
