Allendale County, South Carolina on the Savannah River, Welcome!

Happy Home Baptist Church - An African American Church, 1875-1968 was first organized under a brush arbor in what was known as the "Wood" settlement. Later it was moved to Zion Branch Community, near what was called Old Allendale. The church was called the Zion Baptist Ch. Rev Barnwell was pastor. In 1975 officers and members agreed to relocate the church on its present location (1970) in Allendale. A new church was built and called Happy Home Baptist - a deep expression of love and gratitude to God. The next pastor was Rev Jacob Daniels, serving more than 30 years. The Rev George Daniels, son of Jacob, succeeded his father as pastor. He soon died. The next pastor was Rev Walker of Greenwood. The late Dr S J Rice followed, a great dynamic leader. During his pastorate the present brick church was built. Other pastors who served after his passing were: Barnes, Beaufort, Rickenbacker, Blackville and others: Pastor O R Reubin, who became the President of Morris College, followed by Rev Rufus Daniels. In 1963 Rev C Bush served for 3 years. Pastor in 1970 was Rev L Bonaparte. Contributed by Leon Gardner.
