The Hazel family is Tri-Racial by oral tradition, originally from what is now Aiken County. The are listed as free people of color on the 1840 Barnwell County census. They lived in Dunbarton which is now part of the Savannah River Site. Some Migrated to what is now Allendale County and live near Little Hell and Milletts. Some also went to Bamberg and Hamption Counties.
