Mt. Arnon Baptist Church |

Mt. Arnon Baptist Church, Allendale, has extant records from 1839. This church is in beautiful condition today. You must see it on the inside. A hypertext link below is to a 12 page history of the church. Richard N. Côté lists this church as "Mt. Arnold."
The church apparently has more ancient origins that are currently recognized. In the 1822 probate bundle for my ancestor John Gill is a citation appointing Thomas Gill (his son) as administrator to the estate of John Gill dated 12 August 1822. At the bottom is the statement "Published on the 22th day of September 1822 at "Arnon Church" By me James Prescott preacher of the gospel. Image of the lower portion of this document. This is almost certainly the earliest extant reference to this church.
