PAYTON / PEYTON	I am looking for information on Leroy R. Payton or his father Isaac Payton (may have gone by Peyton) circa 1880 in Hampton County. As they were African-American, they may show up in slave records of prior periods. The 1880 census shows an Isaac Peyton age 44 with spouse Dinah White and 6 children at the time. Leroy was born later, in 1892, possibly in Barnwell or Orangeburg County.  2 Aug. 2002	Mark Payton

POWELL	At this point I am not definite about the county, but seem to have tracked my husband's ancestor Jennie Powell Rogers to the family of Nathaniel Powell from this county (Jennie's birthplace listed on census as Georgia-m in SC, one son named Nathaniel) so seems likely. PRIMUS	Seek info on Alice (unknown maiden name) married James Madison Primus born c1860. Alice (?) Primus born c1861 was said to have been half Indian and half White, and came from Allendale. They lived in Yemassee in Hampton County. 1900 Hampton County census lists her as Mulatto.  In Yemassee, she was a well known midwife. Alice's parents were John Williams and Lindy Brown...I don't know if they were married and if she was ever Lindy Williams or if they had other children as it's been hard to track them down on various census'.
