Allendale, SC, is named after Paul H. Allen , the first postmaster of the settlement subsequently called Allendale, SC in 1849 (then part of Barnwell County). Allen was born about 1800, died in Allendale, SC, and is buried in Swallow Savannah Cemetery. Paul Allen was married Thursday 31 January 1839 in Barnwell/Colleton District, SC, by Rev. John McFail to Miss Lucy Humphreys, who was born after 1815 in Milbury Grove, SC. She was the mother of all of his children. She died in Allendale, SC, and is buried in Swallow Savannah Cemetery. Paul H. Allen was the son of John Allen, Sr., who was born about 1770 in the Allendale, SC area, and is buried in the Swallow Savannah Cemetery, Allendale, SC, and Ann Nancy Dewees.
