M. Brunson Jefferson, firstname.lastname@example.org, states without giving references that:
her great great grandfather Amos Smart did not marry as a 2nd wife, Charlotte Johnston, as claimed in Allendale on the Savannah and elsehwere. Charlotte Johnston was wife of Asa David Smart, son of Amos. Asa and Charlotte moved to Decatur County GA about 1840. Asa died after 1850 Census and Charlotte remarried a Donaldson in Decatur Co., GA.
This same error was picked up by Coy Johnston when he wrote book "William Johnston Of Isle Of Wight County, Virginia And His Descendants 1648-1964"
Amos Smart was married only once and he makes no mention of a wife when the will was probated because Mary Rowley his wife had preceded him in death and Charlotte Johnston Smart Donaldson was very much alive in Court Records of Decatur Do., GA.
I realize this does not make any difference to anyone other than descendants, but you can't believe everything you find in a book.
