Valentine Gill was born in SC ca 1809. He died before April, 1867 probably in Bryan Co. GA. His wife's name was Elizabeth, possibly Johnson. His children (at least children listed in his household on the 1850 census) were Nancy Ann (married Jacob Smith and Henry Bashlor), Margaret, May Ann, Caroline, Isaline, Martha (married John Lane 10 May 1860), John Walter (married Eugenia Downs), Sarah E. (married Richard Shipman) and William Henry (married Henrietta Tillman).

Below are some original Gill family members who lived in or near Richmond Hill, Georgia (formerly Way or Way Station, Georgia) in Bryan County. If you find something of interest, let me know and I will send you a more detailed report including my notes. The Gill family is still prominant in lower Bryan County.   6. 2 Martha Gill was born 1 Nov 1846 (cited on her death certificate) in Bryan County, Georgia.  This is the line of Martha Orr.  She married John Wesley Lane on 10 May 1860 (yes, she was just 14) - according to her Confederate widow's pension application. She died on 15 Mar 1931 in Pembroke (Bryan Co) GA (cited on death certificate.) Martha Gill and John Lane had these children:

Bryan County is immediately to the west of Savannah (Chatham Co.) and includes a teeny stretch of coastline.

It is not obvious to me (FOC) just where this Valentine fits.  He is not a son of old Valentine Gill and Richard Gill did not use this name, nor any other branches of the family to my knowledge.  This man must be a grandson of old Valentine.  He could be a son of Valentine's son, John Gill born 1784-94, married Martha, although Hannah only mentions John's son John in her deed of 1809.  He is not a son of James Madison Gill c1798-c1873.  It would not seem possible that he could be a son of Valentine's son Valentine born c1800 married Judy (or Indy), although I will check the earlier censuses to see if this is feasible.  People did sometimes marry by age 13.  This Valentine Gill named his first born son John W. Gill, then used Henry twice for his next two sons, all consistent with old Valentine Gill's family in Allendale, SC.  I am a bit mystified by how this Valentine connects to the Allendale Co., SC Gills, although he obviously  (should I say most probably?) does.  Anyone have clues?
