5. (V)Francis Gill born <1711 d1791-94, married Martha. Francis Gill was a son of Joseph Gill, born <1694 died 1732.  1765 Francis Gill of Chesterfield Co., VA, brother of Joseph Gill of Halifax Co., VA, deed to 250 acres of land in Halifax Co., VA (Mrs. Clark p64). Francis Gill and William Gill granted land in Halifax Co., VA in 1780 (Mrs. Clark p64). Francis Gill Census of 1783, Chesterfield Co.: 8 whites & 1 black (ibid p64). Francis Gill deed from James Gill 1790, Chesterfield Co., VA (ibid p64). His will in Chesterfield Co., VA, drawn up 21 Sept. 1791, probated July 1794. Francis Gill lists sons Francis and Phillip Gill with a joint legacy in land located in Halifax Co., NC, sons James Gill and Joseph Gill to receive land in Chesterfield Co. after the death of Martha, wife, three daughters Martha, Fanny, and Milly. (Chesterfield Co. Order Book No. 10 page 415, quoted in Mr. Rowland's document).  Executors of the Will were: "three sons, Stephen, James, and Joseph Gill."  Will dated: 21 September 1791. (The Library of Virginia, Chesterfield Co. 1787-1799, Wills, Box 291) The Will was presented in Court (July 1794) by James Gill, who qualified as Executor.  (Chesterfield Co. Court Order Book 10, Page 416).

  1. Francis Gill willed land in Halifax Co., NC, sold that land in 1794.  Perhaps Francis Gill in Laurens Dist., SC, who removed to Smith Co., TN.
  2. Phillip Gill willed land in Halifax Co., NC, sold that land in 1794.
  3. Stephen Gill willed 9.5 acres near homestead of his father, plus a Negro, Will.
  4. Jacob Gill willed 395 acres in Halifax Co., VA
  5. James Gill willed part of home place lands, is this the James Gill in Halifax Co., NC?
  6. Joseph Gill willed part of home place lands
  7. Martha Gill willed stock
  8. Fanny Gill willed stock
  9. Milly Gill Wells willed five shillings, married a ___ Wells.
