I am seeking information on a Joseph Gill that came from Pennsylvania to Ashland County, Ohio. He had smallpox while in the Civil War and was never well after that. He married Mary Swaisgood born in Ashland County, Ohio. They died young, probably within a year of each other, leaving three orphans:

  1. Andrew Franklin Gill,
  2. William Gill, and
  3. Harriet (Hattie) Gill.

The orphans were taken to the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Home in Xenia, Greene County, Ohio around 1877. When they were released William went back to Ashland County and Andrew Franklin and Hattie stayed in the Xenia Greene County area.

I'm told Joseph had a brother John; I don't know about other sibilings, but I don't think they all came to Ohio. I'm also told the name might have been McGill.

If you can give me any leads, information or sources it would be greatly appreciated. B.  Carter
