Maria E. Gill born c1822, was in 1863 a school teacher in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania who lived on North Second Street near Walnut (1863 City Directory).  There is a possibility (not definite) of a connection to New York, most likely in the Allegany and/or Cattaraugus County areas or, perhaps, Potter County, Pennsylvania.  It is possible she never married.  As of the 1870 census she was still living in Harrisburg and was 48 years old. Living with her were Emma Gill, age 35, and Henrietta Gill, age 28, relationship unknown.

1860 Census of Potter County, Pennsylvania, Harrison Township:

Nelson Gill - 35 farmer (it is not known he he is related to Maria)

Clarinda Gill - 35

Charley P. Gill - 12

Harriet P. Gill - 10

Charles W. Degroat - 3
