McIntosh County, Georgia, Gills

McIntosh County is on the Georgia coast, in the middle of the coast line. Anyone have information on this family?  There is a surviving document, a personal letter, linking an Allendale County resident (Barnwell Co. then) to this county.  Please forward any information or clues.

There were two long lived women in this family (born <1740!)! There should be some interesting oral traditions.

1850 census

Bennet Gill McIn217 30 laborer GA, with Neal Davis 66 farmer$300 GA

In 1870 there is a Thomas J. Gill in this county who is listed as an Indian.

One may conclude that Jeremiah Gill was probably born 1775-94 and died between 1820 and 1830, Days or Davis Gill was probably born c1790, and died between 1840 and 1850, and John Gill was born 1770-80 and probably died between 1840 and 1850.  These were probably all brothers,  because of the small spread in estimated birth years, although it is conceivable that Jeremiah was the father of the other two.

Please forward information on these Gills to the Webmeister.
