I've communicated with the Barbara Long regarding Myers . . .and my ancestor
Following from my family Bible records (I believe this family descends from John Gill and Leah Barney's children. All their children were born in Maryland and came to Ohio about 1840.
SELMON GILL was born 15 December 1790. He married MARGARET DORRETT on 19 December 1813 at the First Methodist Episcopal Church, Baltimore, Maryland, by the Reverend Beverly Waugh. She was born 06 October 1790, and died 11 September 1846.
Children of SELMON GILL and MARGARET DORRETT :
I've been reading your document about Mary Tracey and all her Gill children, born "on the wrong side of the blanket." I thank you so much for this record. I had thought as I read the Will that there must have been children. I think going backwards into my family in Maryland may be more fascinating than I thought it might be.
With so many "Gill" families, mine is surely difficult to find, though I do believe that I've found them in this family of John Gill's. (I sure hope you've colour on your e-mail, as I'm going to try to colour code here.
My known list of Gill (from family bible records) begins thus:
SELMON GILL was born 15 December 1790. He married MARGARET DORRETT on 19 December 1813 at the First Methodist Episcopal Church, Baltimore, Maryland, by the Reverend Beverly Waugh. She was born 06 October 1790, and died 11 September 1846. (Their children were born in Maryland and at some point all moved to Union County, Ohio, where I believe Selmon was a farmer. I've managed to trace most of the children., though none known nearly as my own line from #3)
Children of SELMON GILL and MARGARET DORRETT :
It is John Gill in his 1810 will listing his daughters by their married surnames that gives me my first clue: Eleanor Selmon
Looking at the children of his father, John Gill (will dated 1793), a daughter is named with the surname of his wife, Mary Rogers. I show another John Gill marrying in 1780 Leah Barney, and the John Gill who dies in 1822 has named a daughter Leah Gill, so this must be the same John Gill, naming a daughter with the name of his wife?
So -- what on earth do I know? Beats me. I have found this listing of children:
John Gill 1709-1797 married Mary Rogers1712-1797, resided Baltimore, MD.
Best I can imagine, my Selmon Gill is the son of one of the above Gill sons of John Gill and Mary Rogers?
