Obtained the following information from LDS:
DeKalb County, Tennessee
Peyton Gill. b abt. 1860 in DeKalb County. Jesse Gill. b. abt. 1872 in DeKalb County.
Parents were Thomas Jefferson Gill and Malissa Exum who married abt. 1857 in Tennessee(the oddity of the name Peyton suggests that these persons are probably related to gg grandfather Peyton Gill).
Mary Francis Elizabeth Gill. b. abt. 1849 in DeKalb County, Tennessee. Married Joseph M. Adkinson b. abt. 1847 in DeKalb County, Tennessee (Mary could be a daughter of Thomas J. Gill. Will have to check this out when I have access to an 1860 Census).
Sarah Melissa Gill b. Sep. 26, 1856 in DeKalb County married J.K.P. Frank Smith.
NOTE: DeKalb County was formed in 1837 from portions of Cannon, Warren, & White Counties. Putnam County was formed in 1842 from, among others, a portion of DeKalb County. May have to check out all these counties.
Follow up information:
The 1870 Census, Civil District # 16, Laurel Hill PO, Dwelling 129, Family 131, p. 258 shows Gill, Thomas J., 37; Melissa M., 28; Houstan S., 12; Luther P., 10; William B., 8; James, 6; Franklin, 4; Geneva J., 2; Jesse, 10/12(one suspects that this Luther P. and the Peyton, above, are one and the same). Also living in the household was Exum, Eliza, 70 (Eliza probably is the mother of Melissa).(this is the only Gill family residing in DeKalb County in 1870).
