I was brought to your site looking for any information on an ALICE GILL who was b. in Grainger Co., TN around 1870 or so. She married Asa Thompson Oliver. Might you know anything about this family? By the looks of it she was related to Thomas Gill. And, I see by your Cobb connection that "in general" these are some of the families written about in Saunders book "Early Alabamia Settlers". And the Oliver's were part of this bunch. In general the migration pattern for this group is from SC & especially Elbert Co., GA to MS, especially DeSoto. About the same time (1820's) some migrated into TN. Asa Thompson Oliver was the son of a Confederado - one of the Southern citizens that exiled to Brazil after the Civil War.
When looking for Alice Gill, I'd origianlly tried looking for the 2 Gills that I knew were connection to my families - that was a William and John Gill in Monroe Co., AL. They helped administrate some of my folks estates. I really don't know much more than that, but, am willing to share what else I have.
