¹Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, and Halifax lie along the southern VA line with NC, astride the old Richmond & Danville RR, which was likely an old Indian path and migration route from Richmond (Henrico Co.)(portions of Lunenburg became Halifax). Richmond is a fall line city on the James River, and this is the natural migration direction for either Northumberland Co., Henrico-Chesterfield Co., or new arrivals.
