William Gill born c1777 VA died >1850<1860, son of
William Gill, and married second
(DAR statement) 12 Aug. 1813 in Morgan Co., GA, Rhoda (Pope?) Poole
born c1787 in SC died >1860 (he is clearly a descendent of Wm.Gill
b<1738-d1780-81, because the children's names are the same. I believe
this man is the son of Wm. Gill of Iredell Co., NC born c1750 died
in 1797). If Rhoda did not have children until she was c21, then they
would have had none born before c1808, which is pretty consistent with the
records below. This excludes the Thomas Y. and Hiram in the 1821 land
lottery as children.
In 1828, a William Gill paid the Poor School tuition for George Woodward
age 13 in Wilkes Co., GA (Wilkes Co. Papers p113. Wm. Gill witness, State
vs. James Carter, 1813, Wilkes Co., GA (Wilkes Co. Papers p176), and the
William Gill in the census there matches this one in age. Grand Jury Feb.
1818 (ibid p179), 1818 Grand Jury again (ibid p182). May 1822 one of three
persons sued by Jeremiah Burdine for debt, inferior court, Book E fo. 163
(Ibid p206). (Andrea record #80) Wm. Gill in Wilkes Co., GA is named as Guardian
for Sarah & Elizabeth Woodward orphan children of Hy Woodward 2 Oct.
1812 in a suit Wm. Woods vs. Estate of John Freeman. (Following, and children
7 and 8 from Dan Nichols) Capt. Wm. Gill officer of Col. Thomas Wooten's
Regt., 180th, Dist. Co. Of Militia 9 July 1812.
He is listed in Wilkes Co., GA in the 1830 census, but in Meriwether Co.
in 1840.
"One of first settlers of Meriwether Co., GA, which was laid out from Troup
Co. In 1827." "Early merchants in Meriwether CO.: Thomas and William Gill."
1840 Meriwether Co., GA census page 112. 1850 Meriwether Co., GA census age
73, born in VA. "Rhody" Gill was alive at 72 in the 1860 census in Meriwether
CO. GA with son John A. Gill.
1858 Will of William Gill.
Children listed in will of William Gill: Carolyn S. Gill Bradley, Susan A.
Gill Donalson, Julia Gill Donalson, F. L. Gill, Henry A. Gill, Mary
E. Gill Howard, Thomas Y. Gill, Hiram M. Gill, Andrew J. Gill, Olive H. Gill,
John A. Gill, Nancy Gill Davis, Rebecca L. Gill Ragland.
-
Carolyn S. Gill married Norman Bradley
-
Susan A. Gill born 1810-20 married
Thomas Donalson. Might be the Adoline (Adaline)
Gill daughter born 1818, 1829 age 11 tuition at Wilkes Co. Poor
School paid (Wilkes Co. Papers p116). 1830 Poor School tuition paid for Adaline,
age 12.

Henry A. Gill born c1813
in GA married Martha Repass 3 Marcy 1836 (single in 1850 census).
Henry (A. or M.) Gill bc1816 p330 1850 census Meriweather
Co., GA farmer age 34 with #364 Clement Davis, 36 farmer, net worth $0.
A HENRY A. GILL, census records 1870 Bradley Co., AR, with wife MARTHA, and
children. He and wife and children all born in GA. On the AR census for Henry
and Martha there is abt. a 10 year gap in the ages of the last children like
age 11 and age 1. I assummed this Martha might be a second wife. Then I rechecked
your data and Henry A. was listed in 1850 census GA as single living in house
of a sister. This Henry A. Gill of AR (Bradley Co.) had a child b. 1848,
then the last child on census b. 1869 age 1. Seems as though this Henry A.
Gill of AR wasn't with his family for about a decade. The child in 1848 b.
GA, the child age l b. AR. I believe this data fits Henry A. Gill, son of
Wm Gill of Montgomery Co. His age also fits, b. 1813 (recalling from memory).

F. L. Gill: FIELDING
LEWIS GILL, b. 1817, Georgia, migrated to Texas, Upshur Co. by abt 1870.
It is unfortunate that the will only has initials "F. L.", but not too many
names will fit the letters. I also believe that F.L. Gill, son of Wm.
Gill of Montgomery Co. GA, was this Fielding Lewis Gill of Upshur Co. TX,
1880 census. This Fielding Lewis Gill family had connections to southern
AR, that is why I looked at the AR census and found Henry A. Gill. This family
of Wm Gill of GA is hard to document, for I checked all sisters names and
husbands' names in Heritage Quest this p.m., found very little. My Fielding
L. Gill married into my Donaldson family of NC that migrated into MS then
into TX. Juliet Wills

Hiram Milledge Gill born c1816 from the 1850
census died1876-80. Married after 1850 Louisa J. Is this
Melmoth (Melwoth, Memmoth) Gill born 1820, who in 1829
had his paid tuition at the Wilkes Co. Poor School, when he was age 9 (Wilkes
Co. Papers p116)? 1830 Poor School tuition paid as Melmoth age 10. 1831 Wilkes
Co. Poor School tuition age age 11 (ibid p124). He was named for Governor
Milledge of Ga. An old capital of Ga. was at Milledgeville. I (Charles
McDaniel) have found primary sources which call him just "Milledge Gill."
He was my wife's gg grandfather and senior members of the family now
deceased could only tell us his name was Milledge. He was a member
of Phillips Legion, Cavalry, in the Civil War.

his sister). Married 12 Nov. 1851 Mary Ann Parkinson.
-
Mary E. Gill
bc1827 married John H. Howard
-
Thomas Young Gill born c1828.
A Thomas Gill born 1822, in 1831 at age 9 had
his tuition paid in Wilkes Co. at the Poor School (Wilkes Co. Papers p124,
census states bc1827) This could be the
Thomas Y. Gill born c1813 who appears
to have resided all his life in Wilkes Co., GA, but I don't think they match.
There are seven name coincidences. That Thomas Gill named a daughter
Rhoda, and a grandchild had the middle initial O, etc., so this may be
correct. A Thomas W. Gill lived in Meriwether
Co., GA, married 4 Sept. 1853 Agnes A. Render (Meriwether Co., GA marriage
record)
-
Julia Ann Gill (July) born c1828 GA (1850 census)
