I am researching the Adkerson surname. Henry Adkerson b. Feb
14, 1843 d. Jan. 23 1930 served in the elite militia unit Chatham's Ga. Artillery
during Civil War. CSA marker on grave names him Henry Atkinson. Unit served
S.Carolina coast & Georgia. Believe he resided in low country and moved
to Sand Mountain Al after the war. He then moved from Sand Mountain Al. to
Merriwether Co. Ga. where he is buried.

Hampton/Barnwell/Bamberg/Allendale Counties. Arrived on ship Britannia from
Newry, Ireland in 1767 and were granted land under bounty agreement. Land
located in Long Canes, Colleton County (1768) and Saltcatchers. John AIRS
and wife Catharine, Thomas AIRS, John AIRS, Margaret AIRS, William AIRS and
Suzannah AIRS. My ggg-grandfather John (Aires)Ayres was born 7 Oct 1791.
