Hampton County Churches

MILLS CREEK PRIMITIVE BAPTIST CHURCH.

This church is located on Hwy. 278 South in the Horse Gall section of Hampton County. It's sign says it meets every 4th Sat. and Sunday.  This church was formed and organized around July 1878. Delegates from said church and other churches in the area organized a body called the Prince Williams Primitive Baptist Association, with meetings being held on the 3rd weekend of October. of each year. Because at the time these churches were organized, people had to walk, ride horseback, or travel in wagons. But as time passed people were able to buy cars and travel on improved roads. Some churches being so close together were disbanded and the membership consolidated.  The Primitive Baptists believe their church is an organized body of Christ, and to maintain its identity must stand aloof from the world and all worldly things. They also believe that Baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances and washing the saints feet are examples of Jesus Christ, and true believers are the only subjects of these examples and believe that the only true mode of baptism is by immersion.. In 1949, due to a disagreement among the members the association divided and to this day there are only two churches, St. Paul and Black Creek, still in the association.
