STAFFORD BAPTIST CHURCH
Located in the Furman area on Two Sisters Ferry Road. This church was established around July of 1888. A conference was called after reach at Steep Bottom on July 15, 1888 when A. M. DeLoach applied for dismissal of 35 members to organize a church of the same faith and order, which the church did grant him. The following names are of the charter members of Stafford Baptist Church. A. M. DeLoach, Mrs. A. M. Deloach, Miss O. C. DeLoach, Mr. & Mrs. H. D. Mulligan, B. F. Mulligan, Mr. & Mrs. J. A. Tuten, J.J. Tuten, J. G. Tuten, S. W. Tuten, R.M. Tuten, R. H. Tuten, J. G. Goettee, C. W. Ellis, W. P. Ellis, W. J. Ellis, J. B. Trowell, Mr. & Mrs. E. G. Smith, Miss Mattie Mulligan, Miss Helen Smith, Mr. & Mrs. G. M. Goettee, A. J. Goettee, Miss Cathering Goettee, J. L. Goettee, R. A. Goettee, and J. F. Mixon. They didn't have a building at first, meeting in summertime under a brush arbor and in winter or bad weather in the school house. In February one acre sold at public auction by Sara E. Ellis, known as the "school house lot" and was bought by the trustee, R. M. Mixon, G. W. Goethe and H. D. Mulligan for $25.00. The first building (1892) and school house were burned Feb. 5, 1909. The present church was built in . John Asa Tuten was the first body to be buried in the cemetery.
