Nixville Baptist Church
The community of Nixville derived its name for the Nix clan who resided in it. John W. Nix, head of one of the prominent families of the community, lived near where two of the leading roads crossed. It was quiate natural that this point should be known as Nix's Cross-Roads, and the surrounding community as the Nix Community. Later as it became densely populated, it became know as Nixville. n October,1867 just after the Civil War a Baptist Church was organized in this community. At the time money was almost non-existant in this early part of the first decade in the dark and depressive period. The community, along with the state of SC, and the whole Southland was broken, bankrupt, and desolute. For a while the group met and worshipped under a brush-arbor. But by cooperation and sacrifice a small one room building was built. The actual outlay of the chuch was small as the members contributed not only the essential materials for the building, but also the time, labor and skill for the erection of the Church. In 1900 a new Church was built. In time the church has improved to a modern church with a full time paster. The church is located on the corner of Two Sisters Ferry Road and Speed Limit Road.
