| Jasper Co. Historical Society Cemetery Book |
If anyone owns the cemetery book that's for sale by the Jasper Co. Historical
Society, would you mind telling me if any Fells are in it? Unless they are,
purchasing the book would not be helpful to me. I'm especially interested
in John "Johnnie" William Fell who died in 1987 and was the owner of the
Palms Restaurant & Motel in Ridgeland years ago. Thank you. 27

| CLELAND |
JOHN CLELAND was born Feb 19, 1839, in the Beaufort District.
Some sources say he may have lived near the Ridgeland/Gillisonville area,
which I understand is in the JASPER county area. I'm seeking information
on his parentage! There was a JOHN CLELAND with a family in the S.C. 1840
Census, but no evidence in 1850. In an application for Civil War pension
in 1900, John Cleland stated that he came to Pierce County, Georgia in 1847,
but no evidence in Georgia 1850 census. He was found in Pierce County, Georgia
in the 1860 census married to Elender (believed to be SMITH-not confirmed)
They named their first son HANSFORD, apparently after a relative.... their
second child was named MARY. This was a real patriot of the Civil War cause,
serving 3 1/2 years in Northern Virginia while Sherman was marching through
Georgia and S.C. He was at the Appomatix surrender. In Georgia he was associated
with the family SURNAMES of RIGGINS, LUGG, ELIZABETH RICE YOUMANS, JAMES
S. YOUMANS.

I am trying to find information about a Confederate Hopsital that was
located in Grahamville, SC. Do you know if there is a cemetery for this hospital
or where they buried their dead? I am researching the 25th NC and several
of the soldiers died at this hospital and I am trying to find their burial
place. Any help or information you can give me would be greatly
appreciated. 27 Sept. 2003 |

| COX |
Seeking info on Eli COX who died before 7 Mar 1836 leaving
two children: Richard Asa Cox b.4 Feb 1815 d. 19 May 1884 and Franklin K.
Cox b. 28 Jan 1817 d. 8 May 1859. Franklin K. Cox was appointed a guardian,
Jesse Davis, upon his father's death and later married Joseph Ann Elizabeth
Lee, daughter of Joseph and Catherine Parker Lee of Sylvania, GA. A letter
written by Eli's grandson indicates the town the family may have been from
is Brett, SC although that town doesn't seem to be in existence today (Any
clue as to what it's name is now?) Other info implies the family was from
the area in SC across from Effingham, Co., GA which would be Hampton or Jasper
counties today, but Beaufort county back in 1836. I'm willing to share Cox
info from this time period forward with interested parties.
