Names of some of those buried in the State Hospital Cemetery on Sligh Avenue in Columbia.

The city of Columbia has built a golf course over these unmarked graves. The list was published in the local paper , Free Times , in an article by Jason Cato. It is unknown how many indigent patients were buried here from the early 1900's through the 1930's . Two hundred and ten graves are confirmed , including thirty-seven graves which were moved to this cemetery in 1983 from an area below Randolph Cemetery in Columbia. One source states there could be as many as 1,400 burials in this cemetery. Most of the dead are believed to be African-Americans and are not necessarily residents of Richland County.
