Deed of Gift. Here is the first with corrections as well as the others which I finally transcribed. It is pretty much as written. I left in a lot of their errors. So it is not correct by current standards.

Know all men by these presents that I Nicholas Zeigler in consideration of the natural bond and affection which I have and bear unto my daughter Catherine (Dent) wife of William Dent and also for divers other other good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have given granted confirmed and delivered and by these presents do give grant confirm and deliver unto my Said daughter Catherine Dent the following three negro Slaves, to wit John Hannah and Sampson to have and to hold the Said Negro slaves to my Said daughter Catherine Dent her heirs and assigns forever also I give and grant to my said daughter Catherine Dent one other negro Slave named Mariah to have and to hold the said negro slave Mariah unto my Said daughter Catherine Dent her heirs and her assigns forever in trust to and Further uses & purposes hereafter mentioned that is to say in trust and confidence that my Said daughter shall possess and enjoy the benefit labor & service of said negro Mariah until my grand daughter Polly C Dent shall attain the age of twenty one years or shall marry and attain and in that case in trust and for the use and benefit of my said grand Daughter her heirs and assigns forever and in case my Said grand daughter Polly C Dent Shall die before She attains the age of twenty one years or marries then and in that case in trust and confidence and for the use and benefit of the Surviving brothers and sisters of my Said grand daughter Polly C Dent their heirs and assigns forever for witness whereof

Know all men by these presents that I Nicholas Zeigler in consideration of the natural love and affection which I entertain towards my Son Lewis Zeigler and also for divers good causes me there unto moving have given granted and confirmed and by these presents do give grant and confirm unto my Said Son Lewis Zeigler the following negro Slaves, to wit Sam Steven Thersby Lula Peter and Moses Six in number to have and to hold the Said negro Slaves unto the Said Lewis Zeigler his heirs and assigns forever from and after the day on which my Said Son Shall attain the age of twenty one Years or from and after and after the day on which I think Proper make a former delivery of the Said negro Slaves to my Sincer Son before he attains the age of twenty one years or from and after the day of my death if I should die before my Said Son attains the age of twenty one years Therby reserving to my self the use and ownership of the Said negro Slaves until my Said Son Shall attain the of twenty one years or untill I Shall or may make a formal deliverancey of the Said negro Slaves to my Said Son before he attains the age of twenty one years.

State of South Carolina} Know all men by these presents that I Nicholas Zeigler in consideration of the natural love and affection which I Entertain towards my daughter Louisa Zeigler and also for uses good and me here unto moving have given granted and confirmed and by these presents so give grand and confirm unto my said daughter Louisa Ziegler the following Negro Slaves to wit Hepsy, Elsey, George, May, Jim, Peter, Harry, Milley, Nancy, Peg, being ten in number To have and to Hold the said Negro Slaves to my Said daughter Louisa Zeigler to her heirs and assigns forever from and after the day on which my daughter said daughter shall attain the age of Twenty one years or from and after the day on which I may if I think proper make a formal delivery of the said Negro Slaves to my said daughter before she attains the age of Twenty one years or from and after the day of my death if I should die before my said daughter attains the age of Twenty one years I hereby reserving to Myself the use and ownership of the said Negro Slaves is untill my said daughter attains the age of Twenty one years or untill I shall or may make a formal delivery of said Negro slaves to my said daughter before she attains the age of Twenty one years. Or from and after the day of my death If I should die before my said son shall attain the age of twenty one years, or until I shall or may a finally delivery of the said Negro slaves to my said son before he attains the age of twenty one years.

In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal this fourth day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty.
