Bushy Park Water Access

(Goose Creek)

Boat ramps on both sides of Bushy Park Road provide access to Fosters Creek and the Cooper River.

Canal Recreation Area

This is a nice picnic spot in the Francis Marion National Forest, with access to Lake Moultrie and the Palmetto Trail.

Childsbury Towne Heritage Preserve

(Childsbury)

This area has an overlook with a spectacular view of the upper Cooper River.

Cypress Gardens

The Cypress Gardens offer visitors the experience of being with nature as they explore the swamp on flat bottom boats or wander on meandering trails. Visit the Butterfly House, Aquarium, Reptile Center, Crocodile Isle, and Aviary.

Daniel Island Waterfront Park

(Charleston)

This popular place on Daniel Island offers some great views of the natural scenery, including the Wando River. An interesting playground is located here, and a hiking trail runs along the riverfront. The pier is a popular fishing spot.

Diversion Canal and Santee Cooper Aquaculture Center

The Palmetto Trail runs along the northeast side of the Diversion Canal between Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie. Along the way you will find the Aquaculture Center and the Cross Generating Station.

Flood Landing

(Bonneau Beach)

The Augustus M. Flood, Jr. boat landing is located on Lake Moultrie in the town of Bonneau Beach, SC.

Hatchery Wildlife Management Area

Also known as the “Hatchery Waterfowl Management Area”, this interesting place has several hiking trails and is a popular fishing spot on the shores of Lake Moultrie.

Honey Hill Recreation Area

This primitive camping facility is located between McClellanville and Honey Hill. There is an old fire lookout tower here, no longer in use.

Huger Recreation Area

This recreation area in the Francis Marion National Forest has a large picnic area and a boat ramp onto Huger Creek.

Mepkin Abbey

The Nancy Bryan Luce Gardens at Mepkin Abbey offer guests a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the views.

Old Santee Canal Park

(Moncks Corner)

When the Santee Canal opened in 1800 to connect the Santee and the Cooper Rivers, it was America's first summit canal. Today, you will find an 11,000 square foot Interpretive Center, four miles of boardwalks and trails, canoe rentals, and the Berkeley Museum.

Overton Park

Visit Overton Park for a nice, relaxing afternoon on the shores of Lake Moultrie.

Re-diversion Canal

On both sides of the re-diversion canal, which runs from Lake Moultrie to the Santee River, you will find large grassy fields and several wildlife management areas. The gravel roads along the canal form a portion of the Palmetto Trail.

Sandy Beach Wildlife Management Area

This wildlife area on the north side of Lake Moultrie has several hiking trails thru the wetlands, plus access to the Palmetto Trail.

Tuxbury Horse Trail

(Wando)

This 14-mile trail along old logging railroads and trams in the Francis Marion National Forest traverses a wide array of habitat types. It is open for hiking, off-road bicycling, and horseback riding.

Wadboo Bridge Landing

Sometimes known as the “Rembert C. Dennis Landing”, this area provides access to Wadboo Creek, the West Branch Cooper River, and the Tail Race Canal. It is also listed as a Wildlife Viewing Area.

Wambaw Cycle Trail

This forty-mile long trail thru the Francis Marion National Forest was designed for motorcycles, but can also be used for mountain bikes and OHVs (Off-highway vehicles).

William H. Dennis Landing

(Moncks Corner)

This boat landing near Moncks Corner provides access to the Tail Race Canal.

Witherbee Ranger Station

This ranger station in the Francis Marion National Forest also serves as a parking and rest area for the Palmetto Trail.
