Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge and Sand Hills State Forest

Covering 46,000 acres of land and water, the Carolina Sandhills Wildlife Refuge refuge supports a wide variety of plants and animals. An auto tour route, hiking trails, and observation towers provide opportunities for environmental education, bird watching, and photography. If you are interested in wildlife, this place is definitely worth visiting. The adjacent Sand Hills State Forest offers even more hiking trails.

Kalmia Gardens and Segars Heritage Preserve

(Hartsville)

The Kalmia Gardens in Hartsville feature many species of plants, flowers, herbs, and greenery. Just behind them is the Segars Heritage Preserve, which has a series of trails and boardwalks where you can view the Black Creek and the swamp. In addition, the Sawyer Bike Path runs by the edge of the garden and down West Carolina Avenue.
