Located in the northern part of the state, Union County is fortunate to have four major rivers running through it.

Parks and recreation areas

Name	Description
John D. Long Lake	This undeveloped lake with a picnic shelter is open for public recreation.
Lockhart Canal (Lockhart)	Plenty of grassy areas and some woods will be found along the canal and the Broad River in the town of Lockhart. Swimming and boating are permitted in the river, but not in the canal.
Musgrove Mill State Historic Site	The site of Musgrove Mill was also the location of an important Revolutionary war battle. An interpretive center now tells the story of this battle. Several short hiking trails wander thru the scenery which is especially impressive in the fall.
