Traveling from east to west, this section of the Palmetto Trail begins in the Francis Marion National Forest at the Canal Recreation Area, which provides parking, restrooms, and drinking water. Shortly afterwards, it emerges onto the Lake Moultrie dike, affording some wonderful views. It passes thru the Bonneau Beach community briefly before getting back onto the dike. At the northern end, you will be alongside the Re-diversion Canal.
