On the banks of the Ashley River you will find Middleton Place, a carefully preserved plantation dating from the 18th century. You can visit the house and the stableyards, and also see America's oldest landscaped gardens.

How to get there

Located on Ashley River Road (SC #61) about 23 kilometers northwest of Charleston.

Take I-26 to exit #199 and go southwest on US #17A for 5.2 kilometers into Summerville. Turn left onto SC #165 (Bacons Bridge Road) and go south 7.2 km. Turn left onto SC #61 (Ashley River Road) and go southeast 4.9 km. The entrance to Middleton Place will be on the left.
