First settled around 1751, nobody knows for certain how the village of Ninety Six got its name. By the time of the Revolutionary War, Ninety Six was a thriving village with at least 100 people and the site of the Star Fort, an important British defensive post.
Visit the Ninety Six National Historic Site to learn how General Nathaniel Greene planned and executed a clever siege on the Star Fort in 1781. Also get a glimpse of the lifestyles of colonial America.
This is one of the more interesting military battle sites. The remains of the old Star Fort are still standing. You can also see a reconstruction of the Stockade Fort and an old log cabin that has been moved here.
