Covering 46,000 acres of land and water, the Carolina Sandhills Wildlife Refuge refuge supports a wide variety of plants and animals. An auto tour route, hiking trails, and observation towers provide opportunities for environmental education, bird watching, and photography. If you are interested in wildlife, this place is definitely worth visiting.

The adjacent Sand Hills State Forest has trails for hiking, off-road bicycling, and horseback riding. Sugar Loaf Mountain, a traditional gathering place for over a century, is maintained on Sand Hills State Forest as a family recreational area. There is also a primitive camping area.

How to get there	Located on both sides of US #1, northeast of McBee, SC. Take I-20 to exit #98 and go north on US #521 (Broad Street) 3.8 kilometers. Turn right onto US #1 (DeKalb Street) and go northeast 49.5 km. The main entrance to the wildlife refuge will be on the left. Continue down US #1, and you will be in the state forest.
