Death of Holden W. Bethea
He was born October, 13 1844, died July, 26 1908. When only 16 years old
he entered the confederate service, joined Capt. Harvey Staffords company of volunteers
and participated in all the battles in which that famous command was engaged, with the
exception of two years which he spent in the Federal prison at Rock Island. At the close
of the war he returned to his home in Freestates, and married Miss Alice Rogers, and there
survives him from this union three sons and one daughter. The year previous to his death,
he, his wife and one son moved to Dillon. Mr. Bethea was a good citizen, unassuming and a
consistent member of the M. E. church.
