Southern Christian Advocate July 29, 1915 Vol 79 #8 pg 4 col 4 from the Sandor Teszler Library of Wofford College:
Phillip W Bethea
Latta, SC., July 20, 1915. We, the official board of the First Methodist Church, Latta, SC., in Quarterly Conference assembled this, the 25th day of June 1915, realizing our loss in the recent death of our brother Phillip W Bethea, desire to make some public expression of our estimate of his worth and loyalty to our Church covering a period of more than half a century as a steward,
Therefore let it be Resolved:
That while it brings sorrow to us to know that we will see him no more among us, we rejoice that in his long life bringing him through the most trying period of our country's history, compelling him to face many severe trials, he has demonstrated the fact that it is possible to live through any trial without reproach, if we take our Master as our guide as did our deceased brother.
That we will strive to emulate his example of an honorable and upright life and the faithful performance of the duties imposed by the Church.
That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family and to the local paper and The Southern Christian Advocate for publication.
