DILLON--Services for James Alton Byrd will be held Monday at 2:00 P.M. in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 Sunday in the funeral home.

Mr. Byrd, 62, died Saturday in McLeod Regional Medical Center after a lenghty illness.

Born in Dillon County, July 15, 1939, he was the son of the late Coy J. Byrd and Geneva Powers Byrd. He was the widower of Sarah Grimsley Byrd. He was retired from the S.C. National Guard, former employee of Dixiana Mill, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his daughter and son in law, Kay and Mikel McDaniel of Dillon; son and daughter in law, Danny and Jackie Johnson of Sellers; sisters, Louise Monahan and Mildred Odom of Latta, Gladys Byrd of Fayetteville, N.C.; brothers, Charlie Byrd of Dillon, Ernest Byrd of Florence, and William Byrd of Fairmont, N.C.; 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Lane and brothers, Jimmy and Milton.
