J Earle Bethea
J Earle Bethea of Dillon, former state commander of the American Legion and long
prominent in legion affairs, died June 29 at the Veterans Hospital, Columbia,
following an extended illness. He was one of the most widely known citizens
of the state, and vitally interested in its affairs. The funeral services were
held at Dothan Church conducted by his pastor, Rev E K Garrison, of Main Street
church, Dillon.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs Marie Gibson Bethea, a daughter, Miss Marie Gibson
Bethea of Raleigh, and a son, J Earle Bethea, Jr., of Camp Croft, Spartanburg.
