Joseph Boyd Elvington
Joseph Boyd Elvington, 74, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in Florence, SC.
Born in Dillon County, he was a son of the late Lawrence C and Eva Rogers Elvington.
He was retired from Cheraw Packing Plant having worked there for 46+ years.
Mr Elvington was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the American Legion Post.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. Mr Elvington enjoyed gardening,
talking with friends and loving his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife Sue McLaurin Elvington; his children; Joseph Boyd Elvington
and, Miriam "Mimi" E Coffey of Cheraw; step-children, Jason Gregory of Cheraw,
Alton McDougald of Monroe, NC, John McDougald of Columbia, and S Sgt Matt Gregory of Korea;
a brother, Earl Elvington of Florence; three sisters, Joyce Russell of Florence,
Sadie Kate Rogers and Sylvia Suggs, both of Lake View; and seven grandchildren.
His first wife, Miriam Birch Elvington, and brothers, Lawrence C Elvington, Harold Elvington, Robert Elvington, and Kenneth Elvington predeceased Mr Elvington in death.
Funeral services were at 3:00 pm Thursday, June 14, 2001 at First Baptist Church, Cheraw. Burial was in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.
