Dillon - Services for Luther R. Jackson, 81, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Dillon Church of God, with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight at Cooper Funeral Home.
Mr. Jackson, widower of Gladys Coward Jackson, died January 4, 2002. Born in Dillon County on March 26, 1920, he was the son of the late Rev. Hugh G. and Ida Taylor Jackson. Mr. Jackson was educated in the public schools of Dillon County. He was a member of the Dillon Church of God, where he served as church clerk for 29 years and where he was active in all phases of church work, serving as a Sunday school superintendant, member of the pastors council and a trustee. He retired from management at Dixiana Mill as a quality control supervisor.
After retirement he was active in voluntary work. He served as President of the Mohawk Retirees Association, member of the City of Dillon election commission and was active in promoting the National Day of Prayer. He also conducted devotions for several years at the Pines Convalescent Home. He was a World War II veteran, a member of the American Legion, The D.A.V. and the American Family Association.
He was a free-lance writer for the Dillon Herald and other publications.
Surviving are sons, Milton B. Jackson of Montgomery, Ala., and Luther R. Jackson, Jr., of Stoneville, NC.; sister Ruth White of Dillon; three grandchildren.
