(Benjamin) DAVIS CEMETERY
There are, apparently, no tombstones left at this burial
ground but it should not be forgotten.
Location: between Centenary and Knife Island, near Davis Landing on the Little Pee Dee River.
The directions provided below are a best guess, drawn from a comparison of
the map location shown in "101 Cemeteries" and a modern street map.
If anyone can provide more information, better directions, I'd be very pleased
to add it here.
Directions: Traveling south from Mullins on Hwy. 41, about two miles past
Ariel Crossroads, turn left onto Davis Landing Road, then left onto James
Williams Lane. According to the location marked on the map provided in "101 Cemeteries",
the cemetery would have been somewhere just past the end of the lane.
From 101 Cemeteries in Marion County, South Carolina, author not named:
"Headboards and graves were there in the late 1940's. Said to be the burying
ground of Benjamin Davis, who died about 1779, and others. Whites said to be on one
side of a deep channel and Blacks on the other."
