Mr. John L. "Jack" Herring died Monday, July 29, 2002 at his residence after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, at Marion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by SMITH-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME.
Born December 28, 1924, Mr. Herring retired from Carolina Power & Light after 40 years of service. He served his country with the US Navy during World War II in the Philippines. He was past Master of Clinton Lodge #60, A.F.M., a member of the Omar Shrine Temple, a member of the American Legion Post #5 and a member of the Davis Landing River Club.
Mr. Herring served on the City of Marion Park and Tree Committee and the Planning and Zoning Board. Mr. Herring was a member and former deacon of the Marion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ellen James Herring; 3 sons: John Herring of Marion, Joel (Pam) Herring of Florence and Mark (Joanie) Herring of Mullins; 2 grandsons: Wade Herring and Wyatt Herring.
Memorials may be made to the Marion Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3, Marion, S.C. 29571 or to Hospice of the Pee Dee, 555 E. Cheves St., Florence, S.C. 29506. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 till 9 p.m. at SMITH-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME.
