Mrs. Carolyn Coleman Hughes, 80, of Rains, widow of Gillie Hughes, died Wednesday August 5, 1987. Born in St. Marys, PA., she was a daughter of the late John Brendel and Margaret Portzer Brendel. She was a member of Catholic Church of Infant Jesus and was a retired farmer and employee of Belka Department Store.

Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Janie Martin of Mullins and Mrs. Betty Turbeville of Florence; brothers, Frank Brendel of Cantamar, Mexico, and Dave Brendel of Seal Beach, California, sisters, Mrs. Margaret Jagielo of Whittier, California, Mrs. Patricia McKimmery of Hawthorne, California and Mrs. Kathryn Miller of Chewahah, Washington; and grandchildren. Burial in Reedy Creek Cemetery.
