Obituary
William Baker (1739-1823) and Mary Catherine (Evans) Baker (1742-1823)
On Bakers Swamp near Gilesborough in the Marion District
on the 11th ult., Mrs Mary Baker in the 81st year of her age. Two days
after William Baker, Sr. in the 84th year of his age. These good people had
been husband and wife 61 years and during this period resided continually in the same
neighborhood leading exemplary lives. In strict observance of the domestic and social
virtues they were pre-eminent. They were 40 years members of the Methodist Church;
had been the parents of 10 children and now have living 57 grandchildren and 36
great-granchildren.
