MRS. JOHN C. BETHEA
Died, in Marion District, SC, July 30, 1843, in the 30th year of her age, of inflammation of the
lungs, Mrs Katherine J Bethea, wife of John C Bethea, Esq, in hope of eternal life through Christ Jesus.
She was born and brought up in Marlboro District, SC., and was awakened and joined the Methodist
Church under the labors of the Rev John R Pickett of the SC Conference, at a camp meeting, held
in Brownsville, in 1838---Mrs Bethea in point of real worth, had few equals. In her death,
the poor lost a valued friend; her husband an affectionate companion, and the neighbourhood
one of its brightest ornaments.
Tis finished; tis done, the spirit is fled;
The prisoner is gone, the Christian is dead;
The Christian is living through Jesus' love,
And gladly receiving a kingdom above.
