MRS. A.W. BETHEA
Bethea--Mrs Flora J Bethea, widow of Dr A.W. Bethea, was born in Marlboro County, June 3, 1897,
and died February 17, 1897, at the home of her only daughter, Mrs Dr J F Bethea, Marion County, SC.
(note from cgk...birth date undoubtedly is in error).
In early life she connected herself with the Baptist church, and remained in that
communion until October 1865, when she joined the M.E. church, South. Of this she was
a consistent, cheerful member until God called her to the church triumphant. Although
it was her lot to be in a weak state of health for some years, her last illness was of
short duration, and her death unexpected to the family. But she was prepared for the
transition--she was ready. It was the writer's privilege to visit her home a number of
times, and every visit found her in the same cheerful, submissive, patient, Christian
character. To many her life was an inspiration and comfort. A multitude of admiring
friends and a large family of loving relatives mourn her loss, but rejoice in the hope
of a glorious reunion on the resurrection morn. "Thanks be to God that giveth us the
victory." A J Cauthen, Jr
